Casting for Shrimp

Whether you are trying to fill your freezer with shrimp, or just catch bait, sucessfully throwing a cast net is a must.  My son, Morrison turned 9 on Sunday and his Papa gave him a cast net for his birthday.   We put the boat in the water and went out in search of a spot sheltered from the wind.
It is impossible to try explain the steps of throwing a net, but essentially you hold the majority of the net in one hand, grip the weight line in your mouth, then hold the weight line with the other hand, then spin and throw it out over the water so it opens up and sinks as wide as possible.
This was just a practice trip for us, but Morrison did well.  After a few flops, he had a couple of nice throws that opened up.  He didn't load the boat, but with a little more practice, we will be ready to catch bait for fishing this spring, and shrimping in the fall.
